03 Dec Disability
December the 3rd raises awareness of people with disabilities globally, particularly those with invisible disabilities. This refers to disabilities which might not be obvious. The WHO (World Health Organisation) estimates that 15% of the world’s population suffers from invisible disabilities.
A person might be struggling with:
- Mental illness (e.g. depression, anxiety)
- Chronic pain
- Hearing or sight impairments
- Heart conditions
- Neurological disorders
- And so many more afflictions, all impacting lives and work in one way or another.
Some people with invisible disabilities prefer not to disclose the condition, fearing a stigma or even victimisation. There is no need to feel “different” – as mentioned, based on the stats it is probable that 15% or more Salties suffer from invisible disabilities, permanently or from time to time. Being part of the diverse and inclusive Salt EB family means that we respect differences and appreciate Salties who soldier on despite difficulties. So if we can make your life easier, please do not hesitate to talk to us!
